Of Cardboard Boxes and 20% Discounts

Yesterday I spotted my first Amazon Prime cardboard box in the ditch along highway N.  I'm wondering if this is the new norm. The replacement for the ubiquitous plastic Walmart bag.  I suppose it is an improvement because it should biodegrade much faster than a plastic bag.

Seeing the Amazon box got me to thinking about our own waxed boxes that we store chicken in.  These stout boxes cannot be recycled because of the wax coating. We did buy some "green" non waxed boxes in the past, but they were unavailable the last time we needed boxes.

The good news is MaMa Jeans saves our empty boxes and we are able to reuse most of
them. The few that are too worn get retired to our barn storage area. They work just as good as the old "bankers boxes" for storage, can be
labeled on the side and stacked 8 high.  It helps keep my "stuff" organized.

But the best news is that we don't use boxes when our chickens are delivered fresh to MaMa Jeans or Horrmann Meats from May - October.  Unlike other chickens that are shipped many hundreds of miles in boxes, our chickens are shipped the 106 miles to Springfield in plastic trays.  They then ride on a cart from the loading dock to the cooler and then into to your shopping cart, all without a cardboard box.  We thought you would like to know.

We also thought you’d like to know that our  whole chickens are 20% off until March 15, 2020!

If you’re in Springfield, our sale is at Mama Jean’s and Horrmann Meats. We encourage you to visit these great stores to get this discount!

If you’re local, you can get this discount on the farm! We will be open Friday, March 13th from 3:00-6:00pm or by appointment Monday-Saturday. Please let us know when you’re coming and email orders.pvpoultry@gmail.com or call 417-277- 5869. As a bonus, if you buy a case of chicken from the farm, you’ll get one of our very useful cardboard boxes.
